GRT restore from a incremental backup set of a VMware virtual machine stored on an OST Device fails with error "Failed to mount one or more virtual disk images"

Problem

When attempting to restore GRT data from a incremental backup of a VMware virtual machine stored on an OST Device, the restore may fail with the error below

Error Message

Job Log error:
V-79-57344-38721 - Failed to mount one or more virtual disk images:

Debug Log Error:
[fsys\shared]        - VDDK-Log: DiskLibProvider_GetDisk: Open successful - index 0.
[fsys\shared]        - VDDK-Log: Partition:Invalid sector magic number.
[fsys\shared]        - VDDK-Log: Disk number 1 has been skipped because of errors while reading partition table
[fsys\shared]        - VDDK-Log: Partition:Invalid sector magic number.
[fsys\shared]        - VDDK-Log: Disk number 1 has been skipped because of errors while reading dynamic disks header or LDM database is corrupted
 

Solution

This issue is resolved in Backup Exec 2014 or later versions.

To resolve this issue and receive the new Backup Exec improvements please upgrade to the current version of Backup Exec.

NOTE:   Symantec continues to  focus on the current release and future releases, there are no plans to address this issue by way of a patch or hotfix in earlier versions of the software at the present time.
