Storage error: The trial period for the Linux Media Server Option has expired. You must acquire the Linux Media Server Option or deactivate the devices.

Problem

When this issue is encountered, it will be observed that the Linux server is listed not only on the "Backup and Restore" tab, but also on the "Storage" tab, with a duplicate of any deduplication storage that resides on the Windows server appearing attached to it.

Attempts to delete it may return the following:

Redirect job. This device is only assigned storage jobs. These jobs are deleted before the device is deleted.

Schedule given for job 'jobname' is invalid. The server has received wrong or invalid data.

Backup Items could not be updated. The method Backup Items was called with invalid arguments.

Cause

This occurs when the "Remote Media Agent for Linux" was selected during the install of Backup Exec or if "Direct Access Sharing" was selected when the Linux systems were added to Backup Exec. These options require additional licensing in Backup Exec to be functional.

 

 

Solution

Delete the Linux system from Backup Exec, then install the Agent for Linux as described below:
