When using NetApp Data ONTAP version 8.2, the tape devices may appear as offline or missing, or the backup jobs stay in a queued state.




A hotfix is now available for this issue in the current version(s) of the product(s) mentioned in this article. Refer to the Hotfix link under Related Documents at the end of this article to obtain the hotfix needed to resolve the issue.

Backup Exec 2012 Rev 1798 Service Pack 4 (TECH212772).


Backup Exec 2010 R3 Rev 5204 : If possible, rearrange your tape library such that (1.) only the Backup Exec Media Server can see the device, or (2.) only the NetApp filer can see the device.




NOTE: There are no plans to address this issue by way of a patch or hotfix in the previous versions of the software at the present time.

A) Backup Exec Media Server and Netapp filer EACH have a tape library attached locally (Not Shared).

B) Backup Exec media Server and Netapp filer share a tape library (SAN).
