Non-email formatted documents - such as but not limited to Microsoft Word documents, Microsoft Excel spreadsheets or Acrobat PDF files - that have been dragged and dropped into a sub-folder of an Exchange mailbox Inbox and archived by Enterprise Vault (EV) cannot be exported to PST files.  They can, however, be previewed in the Discovery Accelerator (DA) preview pane.

Error Message

Failed to move some or all of the messages to PST.

The Enterprise Vault Content Management API is called when Discovery Accelerator (DA) exports items.  Changes to this API in conjunction to changes in DA to honor file types from SharePoint and File System Archiving combined to cause this issue.

Enterprise Vault (EV) version 10.0 SP3 will export files dropped into a sub-folder of an Inbox then archived with the '.msg' file extension instead of their original file extension. Upgrading Enterprise Vault to version 10.0 SP4 will allow such files to be exported with their native file extension; however, those items still will not move into PST files. These files can be copied onto removable media or into compressed files for delivery to other personnel for review as needed.

This issue has been addressed in the following release:

Enterprise Vault 10.0.4 Cumulative Hotfix 2 Release

Enterprise Vault 11.0.0 Release Details

A few points to note about the resolution:

  1. Exports which are already in an error or awaiting retry state from 10.0.4 or 10.0.3  due to this issue will not be corrected by using the ‘Retry’ option.  Such exports will have to explicitly be re-exported.
  2. In 10.0.4 , exports could show the status of ‘Complete’ but affected items did not get exported inside a PST.  Instead, those items got exported in separate sub-folders.  Such exports must be identified and then must be re-exported or recreated after applying 10.0.4CHF2 to resolve this issue.
