Hyper-V agent backup targeted to a Deduplication folder randomly completee with the exception Failed to mount one or more virtual disk images.

Problem

When running Hyper-v agent backups to a Dedupe folder the jobs may randomly complete with and exception Failed to mount one or more virtual disk images.  The issue may occur randomly on different virtual machines.

 

NOTE: Application GRT restore selections may not be available after this exception occurs.

 

 

Error Message

V-79-57344-38721 - Failed to mount one or more virtual disk images

 

Cause

 

Backup Exec Remote Agent Debug on the Backup Exec Media Server reports:

 

 [mounter]            - MSVSVirtualSystem::MountDisks: GPT disk signature cf356f1f-de01-434e-aba8-c3ab48402122
                     - bevs::IVhdFileUtil::load_VHD_structures: the VHD footer failed checksum verification
                      - About to mount C:\TEMP\Backup Exec\01cecae9451e08b0\Virtual Files\D\Hyper-V\Virtual Hard Disks\Guest\Guest.vhd
                      - Failed to OpenVirtualDisk rc=1392 0x570
 [mounter]            - MSVSVirtualSystem::MountDisk() - mount of "C:\TEMP\Backup Exec\01cecae9451e08b0\Virtual Files\D\Hyper-V\Virtual Hard Disks\Guest\Guest.vhd" failed with error code: 1392
                     - bevs::IVhdFileUtil::load_VHD_structures: the VHD footer failed checksum verification

 

Solution

Increase the amount of available disk space for the Dedupe Folder and run the jobs at different times.
