Exchange backup fails with error "0xe0009b61 - Backup Exec could not log on to the server with the logon account specified for it."

Problem

When Microsoft Exchange Information Store is completely selected for backups, the backup fails with error "0xe0009b61 - Backup Exec could not log on to the server with the logon account specified for it."

Error Message

Following error is recorded in the Job log:

"0xe0009b61 - Backup Exec could not log on to the server with the logon account specified for it. The logon account does not have valid credentials. Ensure that the user name and password are correct in the logon account. "

 

The debug log on media server shows the following errors:

[6148] 2013-09-02T14:52:44.657 [server] - BackupJob::Run() - ***** WARNING ***** There has been an error (-536831135, 0xe0009b61) while building the job. It will not be run.
[6148] 2013-09-02T14:52:44.657 [server] - BackupJob::Run() - ***** WARNING *****
[6148] 2013-09-02T14:52:44.657 [server] - BackupJob::Run() - BSD List contains 4 resources (result=0xe0009b61).

Solution

Workaround :

Manually select the all the storage groups in the backup job.

This issue is currently under investigation by Symantec Corporation. Pending the outcome of the investigation, this issue may be resolved by way of a patch or hotfix in current or future revisions of the software. Applies To

Backup Exec 2012 SP2 installed on windows 2008 server.

Exchange 2007 installed on windows 2008 server.

 If we select all the storage group manually one by one in the same job, then the exchange backup completes successfully. If we check the "Microsoft Information Store" then the backup fails with the above error. This issue is seen for both the GRT and non-GRT backups.
