Problem

Backup Exec (BE) support for Microsoft Hyper-V 2012

Solution

Support to Backup and Restore Microsoft Hyper-V 2012 is added in:

Backup Exec 2014 - http://www.veritas.com/docs/000021432

Limited support in:
Backup Exec 2012 Service Pack 2 - http://www.veritas.com/docs/000087832
Backup Exec 2010 R3 Service Pack 3 - http://www.veritas.com/docs/000087833

Microsoft's new Virtual disk format VHDX is only supported with GRT in BE 2014 if the BE server is on Windows 2012 or later.

Windows Server 2012 uses new File System formats: ReFS and Windows Deduplication. These are only readable on a Windows Sever 2012 Operating System. BE 2014 can only support GRT of these file systems if the BE server is on Windows 2012 or later. They can be backed up and restored without GRT by restoring the entire Virtual Disk. A Physical style backup using the Agent for Windows inside the Virtual Machine can also be preformed.
