Restore of VMware virtual machine may fail with "0xe000957e - Unable to create the new virtual machine"

Problem

The restore of VMware virtual machine to a specific datastore fails with "0xe000957e - Unable to create the new virtual machine". Both redirect restore and restore to the original location fails with the same error.
The CreateVirtualMachineAPI fails with INVALID_PARAMETER error to recognize the datastore and reports an incorrect datastore name which "(DS)" string is added to.

Solution

A hotfix is now available for this issue in the current version(s) of the product(s) mentioned in this article. Refer to the Hotfix link under Related Documents at the end of this article to obtain the hotfix needed to resolve the issue.

To resolve this issue and receive the new Backup Exec improvements please upgrade to the current version of Backup Exec.

WORKAROUND (Backup Exec 2012)
Rename the datastore name to be restored and perform redirect restore to it
