In a Backup Exec 2012 CASO environment with multiple Managed Backup Exec Servers which use Deduplication folders, media may become expired, deleted, and/or overwritten unintentionally

In Backup Exec 2012 running a CASO environment with two or more Managed Backup Exec servers (MBESs) that utilize Deduplication, device media may unintentionally be expired, deleted, and/or overwritten.

Error Message

0xe0000602 - A query for media on which the data set being read is continued was unsuccessful. Ensure that all media in the family have been inventoried and cataloged.

0xe0000904 - An error occurred while retrieving catalog information.

When the media from an Deduplication device expires, any of the MBESs can delete expired media that is controlled by Data Lifecycle Management (DLM). After a backup job completes, if one of the MBESs has the media from an Deduplication device in its expiration list, Backup Exec can overwrite this media.
