Unable to create or start a volume in a VERITAS Cluster Volume Manager shared disk group, or import the shared disk group

Problem

Unable to create or start a volume in a VERITAS Cluster Volume Manager shared disk group, or import the shared disk group

Solution

Vxconfigd must be running on all nodes in the cluster for shared disk group operations to succeed.

Error messages may include:

#vxassist -g shareddg make testvolume 100m
vxvm: vxassist: ERROR: configuration daemon error -1

or

# vxvol -g shareddg start testvolume
vxvm:vxconfigd: WARNING: client <process id> not recognized by VXVM library

or

# vxdg -s import shareddg
vxvm:vxdg: ERROR: Disk group shareddg: import failed: Configuration daemon error -1

Insure that vxconfigd is running on all systems participating in the cluster with:

#vxdctl mode
should return enabled. If it is something other than enabled:

#vxdctl enable
Will start vxconfigd on that node.

Retry the failing command.
