GRT restore selection of Exchange 2003 mailbox store cannot be browsed beyond mailbox level when backed up to disk

Problem

Granular recovery technology (GRT) restore selections of Exchange 2003 mailbox sore cannot be browsed beyond mailbox level when backed up to disk. Backup to tape restore selections can be browsed successfully however restore of individual items from tape based backup fails with error mentioned below:

 

Error Message

Final error: 0xe00003be - Cannot open one or more mail messages because of unknown errors reading data from the EDB file. Review the job log for more information.
Final error category: Resource Errors

Solution

Workaround:

Run restore to Recovery Storage Group (RSG) and then extract the individual item.
