Problem

This article contains a procedure for expanding the size of a replicated volume for Veritas Volume Replicator (VVR) for Windows. These steps will result in the volume being expanded on both the primary and disaster recovery (DR) sites.

Solution

Perform these steps from within the Veritas Enterprise Administrator (VEA).

1. From Select Host, select VEA://Replication Network.

2. From the left pane, expand the replicated data set (RDS).

3. Expand the replicated volume group (RVG).

4. Right-click the volume that will be expanded and select Expand Volume. A dialog box called Expand Volume appears.

5. In the field New Volume Size, type the desired, new volume size.

Note: New Volume Size refers to the total, new size of the volume. This number is the sum of the original size plus the amount by which the volume is being expanded.

For example, if a volume is 100 GB, and it is to be expanded to a new size of 150 GB, enter 150 GB for the new volume size (not 50 GB).

IMPORTANT NOTE : Expanding volume from Replication Network, will attempt to expand the volume on both Primary and DR sites (for the Primary and Secondary RVG's.) We need to ensure that the disk is present and disk space is available to expand at both sides. Otherwise the expansion will fail on one side and replication will be broken.
