Problem

Operation to add SharePoint farm in Backup Exec fails with error mentioned below:

Error Message

Pop Up Error:

Either the Sharepoint server farm already exists in the servers list or Backup Exec cannot access the server farm.  Check to see if the Sharepoint farm exists in the list of servers or check the farm's web server name and credentials.

NOTE: To generate SPSWrapper log enable Backup Exec Remote Agent debug logging on SharePoint Web Server. Please refer to related articles for more details.

Cause

Backup Exec remote agent could not generate SharePoint topology due to some issue with one of the SharePoint Service/Object. To confirm which service is causing the failure check the SPSWrapper log. In the debug log excerpt from SPSWrapper log pasted above it failed to generate information on 'SharePoint Foundation Help Search' object.

Refer SharePoint Admin Console and Event Viewer on SharePoint Web server for additional information on the object listed in the SPSWrapper log. One of the reasons for the error might be not able to connect to the database associated with the Object as listed in errors below:

Solution

Resolve the issue reported in Event Viewer Application Log.  

If the database associated with the problem object/service is not online bring it online.  Or if the database is not accessible due to permissions or other issues, resolve it and then try to add the SharePoint Farm.
