When using the ALL_LOCAL_DRIVES, Shadow Copy Components:\, or System State:\ directives to back up XP clients, the jobs exit with status 69 (invalid filelist specification), and then ultimately with status 50 (client process aborted).
In the job details, this is an example of what would be seen:

When Windows XP was released, the Volume Shadowcopy Service (VSS) was not part of the base install and was added for Service Pack 2. NetBackup 6.x came with the Veritas Snapshot Provider (VSP) which was a way to do open file backups on Windows 2000, XP, and early versions of 2003. VSP was discontinued for NetBackup version 7.0 and higher and cannot be installed separately as 7.0 utilizes VSS for open file backups.
To back up Windows XP clients, install the NetBackup 6.5 client software which comes with VSP built in. It's highly recommended to apply the 6.5.6 patch as soon as possible as to have the most complete and reliable version installed that is available. Once that is done, on the master server, go to Host Properties >> Master Servers >> Client Attributes >> Add and add the client's hostname to the list as shown below.
Then select the client and on the right, select "Use the Veritas Snapshot Provider (VSP)" option as shown. The other options should be checked by default.
Select OK and then configure the backup policy for the client. You can now use the ALL_LOCAL_DRIVES, Shadow Copy Components:\, and the System States:\ directives to do open file backups.
This is specifically seen on Windows XP Professional SP2 systems with NetBackup 7.0 client software or higher.
