Sharepoint agent GRT backup fails during the verify stage with 'The backup of the item is bad'

A Sharepoint agent backup of Sharepoint content database may fail with this error:

Error Message

Verify- SPServer\Content-DB 2 (SQLSVR\WSS_Content)
Data for SPServer\Content-DB 2 (SQLSVR\WSS_Content)\WSS_Content is corrupt.

This is a false failure indication because of something that occurs during the cataloging of the granular items in the content DB.  The database and its granular content are fully restorable.

Workaround:  The verify failure on the content database can safely be ignored or the backup can be run without GRT enabled.  Note that this issue is only related to a verify error message for content database backup with GRT functionality enabled.  In normal operation, verify errors should never be ignored and even in this case, to have full confidence in the GRT Sharepoint backup, test restores should be performed to be sure the data is valid.
