Unable to browse GRT restore selections for full/differential/incremental backup of Exchange database

Problem

Unable to browse Granular Recovery Technology (GRT) restore selections for full/differential/incremental backup of Exchange databases. This issue comes up for differential/incremental GRT backups that ran with delayed catalog jobs.

 

Solution

 

Workaround:

  1. Disable delayed cataloging by setting following registry key on the Media Server:

    Warning: Incorrect use of the Windows registry editor may prevent the operating system from functioning properly. Great care should be taken when making changes to a Windows registry. Registry modifications should only be carried-out by persons experienced in the use of the registry editor application. It is recommended that a complete backup of the registry and workstation be made prior to making any registry changes.

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Symantec\Backup Exec For Windows\Backup Exec\Engine\Backup
     
  2. Create / Modify a DWORD value called Disable Delayed Cataloging
     
  3. Set the data value to 1
     
  4. Restart the Backup Exec services
