NetBackup for Network Data Management Protocol (NDMP) 4.5 contains a new set_ndmp_attr command option -probe that is not documented in the Veritas NetBackup for NDMP 4.5 System Administrator's Guide. This feature may be helpful for administrators configuring third party AS vendor appliances.

The -probe option may be helpful for administrators configuring third party NAS vendor appliances as NDMP storage devices. This set_ndmp_attr -probe command requires NetBackup for NDMP 4.5 to be run on a vendor appliance with NDMP protocol version 3.

If the set_ndmp_attr -probe command is run on vendor appliances that do not support NDMP protocol version 3 or do not support the -probe
option, the following message is returned:

# ./set_ndmp_attr -probe <ndmp_hostname>
set_ndmp_attr: Host "hostname" is not running NDMP protocol version 3 or higher
set_ndmp_attr: unable to continue
