When Symantec Endpoint Protection is installed before the Backup Exec Agent for Windows Servers, server applications that use the Windows LogonUser function may be greatly delayed.
On a Sharepoint Web server, this issue has been encountered with the Sharepoint add-in Winshuttle where Sharepoint page loads were slowed greatly with the installation of the Backup Exec Remote Agent. On a SQL server, the issue has also been seen to affect the speed with which SQL Reports run.
There are no failures in Backup Exec because of this issue, the impact is on Non-Symantec applications.
Warning: Incorrect use of the Windows registry editor may prevent the operating system from functioning properly. Great care should be taken when making changes to a Windows registry. Registry modifications should only be carried-out by persons experienced in the use of the registry editor application. It is recommended that a complete backup of the registry and workstation be made prior to making any registry changes.
In order to eliminate the added delays, the following registry value should be deleted:
Open the Windows Registry and navigate to location: HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\PDVFSNP\NetworkProvider
Delete only the 'Class' value from this location by right clicking on 'Class' and selecting 'Delete'. Click'Yes' to confirm the deletion then close the registry.
This issue is now resolved in Backup Exec 2010 R3 Service Pack 2 and Backup Exec 2012 revision 1798 Hotfix 201596.
