BEremote.exe service crashes right after it is started. Faulting module name: KERNELBASE.dll in Backup Exec 2012

Problem

On a remote server that has the Backup Exec remote agent installed the BEremote.exe service crashes faulting module name: KERNELBASE.dll
VSS errors will also be seen in the application event logs.
