SQL backup failed with status 2

Problem

1.SQL 2008 R2 database(which is in Active-Passive cluster) backup is failing with the error code 2.

2.In the SQL server policy the SQL client name is the virtual SQL instance name.

bpbrm log shows

<2> job_connect: Can't connect to client master_server_name
<16> bpbrm send_event_msg_to_monitor: failed to connect to bpjobd on master server master_server_name(25)
..............
<2> bpbrm Exit: client backup EXIT STATUS 2: none of the requested files were backed up


dbclient log shows

<2> bprd_connect: vnet_connect_to_service(master_server_name) failed: 18
<2> bprd_get_features: bprd_connect(master_server_name) failed, cannot connect on socket (25)
<16> bsa_checkFeatureId: unable to check if feature <33> is licensed
<16> bsa_checkFeatureId: Server exit status = 25: cannot connect on socket
<16> VxBSAInit: ERR - The license for the requested feature is not available.

Cause

Restricted permisions for the sevice account.

Solution

Give the SQL account that Netbackup client service is running as on the SQL server the sysadmin role and the backup will complete successfully.
