Unable to install NetBackup 7.5 on Solaris with disk space issue

Problem

Unable to install NetBackup 7.5 on Solaris with disk space issue

Error Message

cpio: Cannot write "reloc/openv/netbackup/bin/nbpem", errno 28, No space left on device

Cause

The cause of the issue is there is not enough disk space available during the install but the error does not indicate where the disk space is needed.

Solution

Check if there is a TMPDIR environment variable:

echo $TMPDIR

If this does not exist, installation will default to /tmp but likely the disk space is not enough in this directory.

Workaround:

Export NB_TMPDIR=<somewhere with plenty of disk space available>

eg. export NB_TMPDIR=/var/tmp

re-run install script should allow NetBackup installation to proceed successfully.
