What are the supported Disk Storage types for NetBackup Granular Restore Technology (GRT) backups?

Error Message

Exit Status 1

When the GRT portion of a backup fails to complete successfully, the backup will finish with Exit Status 1. Database level restores are still possible from the backup. However, individual item recovery is not possible.

Symantec strongly advises customers to ONLY use supported disk storage types for GRT backups. Using unsupported disk storage types can lead to GRT failures.

Additional Notes:

1) For PureDisk Deduplication Option (PDDO) and NetBackup Appliances used as Disk Storage Units, the table indicates the minimum version level for the option or appliance.
2) GRT in NetBackup is defined as the feature which allows for individual item or object restore from Microsoft Exchange Server, Microsoft SharePoint Server and Microsoft Windows Active Directory backups.
3) For Exchange backups, only snapshot backups should be used when using an OpenStorage-based or PureDisk-based storage unit. See articles 000085639 and 000009237.

* Basic and AdvancedDisk Storage Unit Types that use an NFS or CIFS mounted volume are not supported for GRT due to performance limitations. See article 000005769

** NetBackup 7.5 introduces GRT support for qualified Third Party OpenStorage devices. Please check the NetBackup Hardware Compatibility List 000040791 for the current list of qualified OpenStorage devices.
