BESERVER.EXE crashes when creating new or modify existing archive jobs.


New archive jobs to exclude a subdirectory of a previously created job to archive a user share cause BESERVER.exe to crash when jobs are edited after creation.

The Backup Exec Server service terminated unexpectedly.  It has done this 1 time(s).  The following corrective action will be taken in 60000 milliseconds: Restart the service.


This issue has been resolved in Backup Exec 2012.


Disable the subdirectory exclusion for an existing archive rule configured under “Different archive settings…” in a new job.  Note this workaround will cause the subdirectory to be archived and should be implemented with care.

There are no plans to address this issue by way of a patch or hotfix in earlier versions of the software at the present time.  However, the issue has been addressed in the revision of the product specified at the end of this article.
