Offline Tape Drives appear in Backup Exec 2012 User Interface after create several backup job definitions for multiple remote servers.

Problem

On the Storage tab, several offline tape devices may appear after creating multiple backup job definitions for multiple remote servers.

Error Message

Backup Exec User Interface Error: Tape drive XXXX (No Media) Offline

Example Adamm.log Error: Discover: ndmp_save_device_info max paths (1792) exceeded

 

Cause

Excessive deduplication device paths from several Remote Agent for Windows Servers configured with having direct access to the Backup Exec Deduplication Disk Storage Device.

Solution

Workaround:

Reduce the total number of OST devices below 2048 and less than 255 per Remote Agent for Deduplication.

There are currently no plans to address this issue by way of a patch or hotfix in the current or previous versions of the software at the present time. This issue may be resolved in a future major revision of the software at a later time.
