Cause

The common cause of this error is lack of disk space on the volumes of the virtual machine

Another cause for this error is if there are VSS errors on the OS of the virtual machine.

NOTE :: This occurs for both GRT and  non-GRT backups of virtual machines with the Hyper-v Agent.

Solution

1. Clear up space on the volumes that are limited on disk space.

2. Expand the volumes that do not have sufficient disk space through the Hyper-v Manager.

3. Resolve any other VSS errors on the guest OS before running the backup.

NOTE :: It is recommended to make a copy of the VHD files by shutting the virtual machines down and copying them to a safe location before attempting option 2.
