After upgrading to Backup Exec 2012, the Backup Exec Job Engine service (BENGINE.EXE) crashes with faulting module kernel32.dll when pre-existing IDR to SDR job is run.

Problem

After upgrading to Backup Exec 2012, the Backup Exec Job Engine service crashes during a full server backup with SDR enabled. An EVENT ID 1000 is reported with description "Faulting application name: bengine.exe, version: 14.0.1798.101, time stamp: 0x4f345736,Faulting module name: kernel32.dll, version: 6.0.6002.18449, time stamp: 0x4da47b2f

Solution

This issue is resolved in Backup Exec 2014 or later versions.

A hotfix is now available for this issue in the current version(s) of the product(s) mentioned in this article. Refer to the Hotfix link under Related Documents at the end of this article to obtain the hotfix needed to resolve the issue.

To resolve this issue and receive the new Backup Exec improvements please upgrade to the current version of Backup Exec.

WORKAROUND:

1. Move all the old .DR files from the current DR file location to an alternate location.

                                                        OR

2. Change the DR path manually from ‘Configuration and Settings -> Backup Exec Settings -> Simplified
Disaster Recovery -> Disaster recovery data path (<BE Install>\SDR\Data)
