Problem

Test of SharePoint credentials fails with an authentication error even though the login account was configured as specified in the SDI Installation Guide.

Error Message

The sharepoint_audit log may show the following:

WARNING: Could not load Mask Rules. This may happen because no rules have been specified using DI settings console
2012-02-22 16:09:10 ERROR: System.Web.Services.Protocols.SoapException: Server was unable to process request. ---> Access is denied. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80070005 (E_ACCESSDENIED))

Unable to verify credentials for auditing. The user '<DOMAIN>\<USERNAME>' may not have sufficient privileges to get audit logs. Review the web application URL and the credentials used.

Cause

Claims based authentication is used by the SharePoint.

Solution

Data Insight does not fully support Web applications which have authenticated mode set to claims based.

If claims-based authenticated Web applications are configured in Data Insight, ensure that the authentication mode of the claims-based Web applications also have windows authentication enabled. This can be done using the Microsoft SharePoint Central Administration Console which is available on the SharePoint server.
