"Unable to update the deduplication disk storage" error occurs

Problem

If a Deduplication disk storage folder is removed from Backup Exec and left idle for more than 30 days, it may remain in the Undiscovered or Offline state when it is reinstated into Backup Exec.
 

 

Error Message

Unable to update the deduplication disk storage.  An error occurred while creating deduplication disk storage. See the following link for additional information:

Cause

When a Deduplication disk storage folder has been idle for an extended period, housekeeping tasks need to be performed before the folder can come back online.  These tasks sometimes take longer than Backup Exec will wait, and the folder remains in the Undiscovered state.

 

Solution

Restart the deduplication services and the Backup Exec services as follows:

1. Click the Backup Exec button, select Configuration and Settings, and then select Backup Exec Services.


2. Check the "Enable deduplication services to be started or stopped" check box.  


3. Click Start all services.
