Preparing storage for testing on node servername.local
Failed to prepare storage for testing on node servername.local status 87
Failed to prepare storage for testing on node servername.local status 87

Solution

This error occurs if a Windows utility partition is present that does not have a drive letter or nor folder mountpoint assigned to it.

The "List All Disks" portion of the Windows Failover Cluster (WFC) validation wizard requires Windows automount to be enabled. Storage Foundation for Windows (SFW) disables automount when it is installed. While automount can ne re-enabled from Windows, this is not recommended for clusters.

As a work-around, assign a temporary drive letter to the Windows utility partition before running the WFC validation wizard. The drive letter can be removed after the validation wizard is finished.
