After upgrading NetBackup, NDMP backups start to fail reporting status code 84 and bptm reports "too many data blocks written" errors in its log.

Problem

After upgrading NetBackup, NDMP backups which were previously successful now fail reporting status code 84, and the block position check values do not match.
 

Error Message

Messages similar to the following may appear in the bptm log:

<2> io_terminate_tape: block position check: actual 1035091, expected 1034773

 

or

The actual block position is +1 from the expected.

<2> io_terminate_tape: block position check: actual 21006, expected 21005

 

or

The absolute block position value is far off the expected block position

22:16:20.200 [3277] <2> io_terminate_tape: absolute block position prior to writing empty header is 16943749, copy 1

22:16:20.270 [3277] <2> io_terminate_tape: block position check: actual 16943749, expected 166533

 

<16> io_terminate_tape: FREEZING media id ABC123, too many data blocks written, check tape/driver block size configuration
