Problem

Files and Folder backups fail with error "Info 6C8F1C25: Cannot add protection" as soon as the backup runs.

Error Message

Info 6C8F1C25: Cannot add protection.   Cannot retrieve list of drives.
 UMI:V-281-429-39228

Cause

This can happen if the local drives from where data is backed up are not emulated properly in windows due to discrepancies in the partition table. Although the drives are available for selecting files and folders in the selections, the drives may not be seen while doing a drive based backup using Veritas System Recovery.

Solution

1. Check the drive configuration in Windows Disk Management. Confirm that all the partitions are configured properly and available in the disk management.

2. Run partinfo.exe from C:\Program Files\Veritas\Veritas System Recovery\Utility and check the output text file generated.

- Check and confirm if there are any partition warning messages such as:
WARNING: Begin CHS does not match start sector LBA in partition above.
WARNING: Partition above extends beyond end of disk

3. If the above warnings are seen in the partinfo.txt file then refer the below article and follow the mentioned steps:
