Files and folders backup on some drive fails with error "Info 6C8F1C25: Cannot add protection".


Files and folders backups fail with error "Info 6C8F1C25: Cannot add protection" as soon as the backups run.

Error Message

 Info 6C8F1C25: Cannot add protection.   Cannot retrieve list of drives.



This can happen if the local drives from where data is backed up are not emulated properly in windows due to discrepancies in the partition table. Although the drives are available for selecting files and folders in the selections the drives may not be seen while doing a drive based backup using BESR.


1. Check the drive configuration in the Windows Disk Management. Confirm that all the partitions are configured properly and available in the disk management.

2. Run partinfo.exe from C:\Program Files\Symantec\Symantec System Recovery\Utility and check the output text file generated.

- Check and confirm if there are following warning messages.

   WARNING: Begin CHS does not match start sector LBA in partition above.
   WARNING: Partition above extends beyond the end of disk.

3. If the above warnings are seen in the partinfo file then refer the below technote
  ( ) and follow the mentioned steps.
