Exchange GRT (Granular Restore Technology) enabled backups will fail if Exchange and Backup Exec are installed on the same cluster but their cluster resources are running on different nodes and the backup job is targeted to a tape device.
This issue is not seen when:
- Exchange and Backup Exec are not installed on the same cluster.
- The Exchange and Backup Exec cluster resource is running on the same node.
- GRT is disabled.
- The backup job is targeted to a B2D (Backup to Disk) folder.
Final error: 0xe000ff12 - A communication failure has occurred with an Exchange Store resource.
Final error category: Resource Errors
V-79-57344-65298 - The Exchange Store service is not responding. Backup set canceled.
As per Symantec recommendation and Best Practices:
GRT (Granular Restore Technology) enabled Exchange backups should run to a Backup to Disk folder and then duplicated to tape.
Exchange GRT enabled backup jobs shouldn't be targeted directly to a tape device.
By following the Best Practice Guidelines the above issue is resolved.
