Agent for VMware Virtual Infrastructure (AVVI) GRT restores from an encrypted duplicate backup set fails with: e0000f0c - An error occurred when attempting to initialize encryption for job.

Problem

When attempting a GRT restore from an AVVI backup made from an encrypted duplicate backup, the restore fails with:  e0000f0c - An error occurred when attempting to initialize encryption for job. 

Error Message

Restore- SERVERNAME

 An error occurred when attempting to initialize encryption for job.

V-79-57344-3852 - An error occurred when attempting to initialize encryption for job.

Connection to the restore target has been lost.  Operation canceled.

Failed to mount one or more virtual disk images: 


  

Solution


Workaround: Restore the entire virtual machine to original or new location.
 

Symantec Corporation has acknowledged that the above-mentioned issue is present in the current version(s) of the product(s) mentioned at the end of this article. Symantec Corporation is committed to product quality and satisfied customers.
There are currently no plans to address this issue by way of a patch or hotfix in the current or previous versions of the software at the present time. This issue may be resolved in a future major revision of the software at a later time.
