How to check the version or status of the Backup Exec Remote Agent for Windows Servers.
To facilitate backups of remote machines, Backup Exec (tm) uses the Backup Exec Remote Agent for Windows Servers (RAWS). This agent allows data to be compressed and streamed from a remote server to the Backup Exec Media Server. The Remote Agent is also necessary to perform backups using certain other Backup Exec options or agents, such as the Open File Option, Agent for Lotus Domino, Exchange, SQL, etc..
For full compatibility and optimal backups, it is important that the version of the Remote Agent (RAWS) matches the version of the Backup Exec Remote Agent that runs on the media server.
To determine the version of the Remote Agent executable (Beremote.exe) on a remote Microsoft Windows machine, perform one of the following steps:
1. Search for Beremote.exe in the default path in the X:\Program Files\Symantec\Backup Exec\RAWS directory.
2. Right-click on Beremote.exe - Properties - Version or Details
Note: The file version on the remote machine must match the version of the Backup Exec Remote Agent (Beremote.exe) on the media server located at the X:\Program Files\Symantec\Backup Exec (for version 11d and above) or Program Files\Veritas\Backup Exec\NT (for Backup Exec 10d).
In Backup Exec 10.d and above, the status and version of remote agents on remote Windows Servers can be checked from the Backup Exec Graphical User Interface (GUI) by performing the following steps:
1. Open the Backup Exec GUI and go to the Backup tab
Browse to the remote server, right-click the desired server, and select Properties
(Figure 1) Figure 1
The remote agent status and version will be displayed at the bottom of the Properties
dialog box (Figure 2) Figure 2
4 . Now right click properties of media server under under windows network, The file version on the remote machine must match the version of the Backup Exec Remote Agent (Beremote.exe) on the media server.
