Exchange 2003 Granular Recovery Technology (GRT) Backups to Disk fail with error: "0xe00002fe - Cannot log on to MAPI with the specified credentials."

Problem

Exchange 2003 GRT backups to disk will fail with this error if the ese.dll file cannot be copied to the GRT Image Folder when created at the time of backup.

 

Error Message

 V-79-57344-766 - Cannot log on to MAPI with the specified credentials. Review the resource credentials for the job, and then run the job again.
0xe00002fe - Cannot log on to MAPI with the specified credentials. Review the resource credentials for the job, and then run the job again.

 

Cause

A SGMon with Exchange High Debugging will show the following:

system cannot find the file specified.
REMSRV:       [fsys\jet]           - Jet: Copy file failed for \\PATH_TO_B2D_LOCATION\exosal.dll.  0x2, The
system cannot find the file specified.
REMSRV:        [fsys\jet]           - Jet: Copy main file failed for \\PATH_TO_B2D_LOCATION\ese.dll.  0x2, The
system cannot find the file specified.
REMSRV:        [fsys\jet]           - LoadLibraryEx failed for \\PATH_TO_B2D_LOCATION\ese.dll.  0x7e, The
specified module could not be found.
REMSRV:      [fsys\jet]           - EseTraits(Full,Snapshot):
