Commandcentral Storage (CCS) does not recognize new disks added to an already discovered IBM DS4300 array.

After the disks are physically added and viewable under IBM's System Storage Manager they do not show up in the CCS  Console even after a complete CIMVAILExplorer cycle has completed.

The Array View in the console will only show the number previously discovered. If for example your new configuration was doubled to 42 disks from a previously discovered 21 it would still show 21 disks.

Select the specific array form the Managing Summary Arrays page so that the current context is that array.

ensure the overview tab is selected

and view the current status on the far right of the page.

Error Message

The array disk total is incorrect for the current configuration.

The Output of 'halcmd -A CIMVAILExplorer -c' would show an error that the Explorer is currently in a state of Waiting for VAIL

There was a contention for the running of CIMVAIL, perhaps with an exploration or rediscovery that has caused the lock to remain unfreed.

This is occurring even though the status of the explorer is normal.

Cycling the service will free the lock.

Check the process is running, then Cycle the process you currently have locked.

C:\Program Files (x86)\VERITAS\CommandCentral Storage\HAL\bin>halagentcfg list-processes -a

Process    [CIMVAILExplorers]          RUNNING   <PRocess Identifier number>

If it is a 64 bit system the location of the 32 bit programs are under (x86) in a default install.

Set the environment to be safe

C:\Program Files (x86)\VERITAS\CommandCentral Storage\HAL>halenv.bat

The change to the executable's location

C:\Program Files (x86)\VERITAS\CommandCentral Storage\HAL>cd bin

Cycle the individual process by stopping

C:\Program Files (x86)\VERITAS\CommandCentral Storage\HAL\bin>halagentcfg stop-process -p CIMVAILExplorers

then starting the same process to free the lock

C:\Program Files (x86)\VERITAS\CommandCentral Storage\HAL\bin>halagentcfg start-process -p CIMVAILExplorers

Confirm it is running and has a PID (Process identifier) by listing all processes and associated explorers

C:\Program Files (x86)\VERITAS\CommandCentral Storage\HAL\bin>halagentcfg list-processes -a

Discovery should now complete and the new disks will be captured and shown in the console.
