CommandCentral Enterprise Reporter (CCER) installation fails configuring Cognos

Problem

After migrating Oracle to a new server and installing CCER to connect to the new Oracle instance, the installation stops when configuring the Cognos software.

It can be tracked in the installccer log that the installation is proceding to configure Cognos.

This will be referred to the ccer_cognos.log which may show the issue where:

Error: Cognos server is not yet running. Please look into Cognos log files. Aborting Cognos configuration

The issue will be apparen in the cogserver.log as shown below.

 

Error Message

/opt/VRTSccer/cognos/c8/logs/cogserver.log

CM-CFG-5036 Content Manager failed to connect to the content store. The connection string is "jdbc:oracle:thin:@<host>:1521:CCER".  ORA-01017: invalid username/password; logon denied  Cause: ORA-01017: invalid username/password; logon denied  

if the password is correct, the error could be:

CM-REQ-4012 You do not have the appropriate permissions to update or delete the object "/Directory/Cognos" or a related object
 

Cause

Test connection to the database using the SAHARA_COGNOS user.

Solution

It might be appropriate to reset the SAHARA_COGNOS user to the default password of SAHARA_COGNOS/SAHARA and retry the installation.  If the installation is then failing / only failing with permissions errors but the password is correct then clean the Cognos configuration from the database:

1. drop user SAHARA_COGNOS cascade;
2. create user SAHARA_COGNOS identified by sahara default tablespace SAHARA_CGNS_01 quota unlimited on SAHARA_CGNS_01;
3. grant create procedure,create sequence,create session,create table,create trigger,create view,SAHARA_READ to SAHARA_COGNOS;
