An Exchange 2010 Granular Restore Technology (GRT) restore of Online Archive messages may incorrectly restore into the Mailbox User's folder. This issue has been observed when Online Archives for a Mailbox User have been backed up using GRT. (See Figure 1 and 2)
After a successful GRT backup, the data is restored successfully, however the archived mail messages will show beneath the Mailbox User's folder. If the archived mail messages were backed up at the root location of the Online Archives directory, the messages will restore to the root of user's folder. (See Figure 3)
If the archived messages were located in a sub-folder of the Online Archives directory, the sub-folder will be created in the Mailbox User's folder at the time of restore. All subsequent archived messages belonging to the folder will restore beneath it in the Mailbox User's folder.
Backup Exec 2012 restores the archives into the User's Online Archive Folder.
Note: SP1 for Exchange 2010 should be applied for the above to work.
Workaround for Backup Exec 2010 Restores of Archive Mailbox Content:
1. Restore the Online Archive
2. Manually Move the Restored Archives into the User's Online Archive Folder after Restore
