Installation of Remote Agent for Macintosh Server (RAMS) reports back "Not Supported" on a MAC OS X 10 64-bit Operating System

When performing an installation of Remote Agent for Macintosh Server (RAMS) on a MAC OS X 10 64-bit kernel, reports back as "Not Supported".

Cause

Mac OS X 10 server is in 64-bit mode.

This is caused by the ./installrams script is looking for a i386 processor.

Solution

Reboot machine into 32-bit mode and then install the remote agent on the server.

To allow installation, continue with the following steps to place the machine in 32bit mode.

1. Open a terminal window.
2. Type the following command: # sudo systemsetup -setkernelbootarchitecture i386
3. Reboot the server.

Once the server has been rebooted into 32 bite mode, the installation of Remote Agent for Macintosh Server (RAMS) can be performed.

To place the server back into 64-bit mode the following steps will be needed.

1. Open a terminal window.
2. Type the following command: # sudo systemsetup -setkernelbootarchitecture x86_64
3. Reboot the server.

 

The server should be available under Macintosh systems in the selection list for backup.
