Installing or removing the CommandCentral Storage (CCS) Managed Host (MH) creates a condition that causes issues after the next system reboot or restart of the Veritas Storage Agent service (vxvm). The symptoms of this condition are:
The Storage Foundation for Windows (SFW) Firedrill wizards remote discovery operations fail with Unexpected Error.
- Volume arrival does not work automatically. Manual intervention is required to perform a refresh within SFW to trigger volumes to arrive. This means that clustered solutions will not work correctly.
The MH installer deletes the following registry keys:
- HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Veritas\vrtslog (under Wow6432Node for x64)
- HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Veritas\VRTSvdid (under Wow6432Node for x64)
- HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Veritas\VxICS (under Wow6432Node for x64)
Removal of the VRTSvdid key causes the ddlprov.dll provider to fail to load when vxvm is restarted. The error in this provider prevents volume import from happening.
Removal of the vrtslog key causes the issues within the SFW Solutions framework.
A registry replacement file is available which can be used to recover the missing keys. This is available in the attachments section of this document. Note -- This solution needs to be re-applied every time the CCS Managed Host is installed or uninstalled.
