Problem

Restore of SharePoint Content database may fail with error code "0xe000fefe - An error occurred while connecting the restored databases to the Microsoft SharePoint Portal Farm. The portal was not restored."

Error Message

V-79-57344-748 - Cannot restore some SharePoint metadata for the selected database. Review the event logs and the SharePoint administration console for errors, and then run the job again.

V-79-57344-65278 - An error occurred while connecting the restored databases to the Microsoft SharePoint Portal.

Symptoms : 
The Beremote debug from the SharePoint server shows the following error :

BEREMOTE: SPS commit restore failed with c2d.

SPSWrapper log on SharePoint Server shows the following error :

Error , Exception while trying to create the web Application Default Web Site Message ::An update conflict has occurred, and you must re-try this action. The object SPApplicationPool Name=SharePoint Intranet Parent=SPWebService is being updated by Domain Name\user name, in the w3wp process, on machine SHAREPOINT.  View the tracing log for more information about the conflict. Source :: Microsoft.SharePoint StackTrace ::   at Microsoft.SharePoint.Administration.SPConfigurationDatabase.StoreObject(SPPersistedObject obj, Boolean storeClassIfNecessary, Boolean ensure)

Description:
Unable to commit the restore of the Microsoft SharePoint site http://sharepointsite.com/. 

Cause

This issue occurs if the contents of the file system cache on the front-end servers are newer than the contents of the configuration database. 

Solution

  • Follow the steps provided in the following article to flush the cache on the front-end server : 

 http://support.microsoft.com/kb/939308 

  • Run the restore. Restore of content database should now be successful.
