Problem

SQL Backups or Restore fail with the error "BackupVirtualDeviceSet::SetBufferParms: Request large buffers failure on backup device Operating system error 0x8007000e(Not enough storage is available to complete this operation."

This issue has been noticed while working with Netbackup Application as well and the Status Code 2 was received on the Netbackup end for this issue.

Cause

This is a BUG from SQL 2005 end and Microsoft have acknowledged that this is a known issue.

Solution

 
This issue is pertaining to SQLVDI (Virtual Device Interface) and is resolved by applying the Microsoft Hotfix as mentioned in the following article:
 
FIX: Error messages and an event may be logged when you use the Virtual Device Interface in SQL Server 2005 or in SQL Server 2000
 
It is written in the KB Article that this patch should be installed on MS-SQL 2005 SP2 and no reboot is required after applying this patch.
