Backup Exec Archiving Option (BEAO) does not function because all the Enterprise Vault (EV) Services are not running

Error Message

Event ID 4141: Insufficient disk space is available on drive {DRIVE.EN_US} for the Enterprise Vault to run. Enterprise Vault will now be shutdown; to correct this problem, delete any unwanted files and restart Enterprise Vault


Symantec Enterprise Vault technology is the foundation for the Archiving Option. When installing the Archiving Option, some Enterprise Vault services are also installed. For the Archiving Option, Enterprise Vault shuts down services if it detects a resource issue. The Enterprise Vault Admin Service checks for adequate disk space on all disks on the system by default, as well as virtual memory. If it finds there is not enough, all the services may be shut down to protect the integrity of the system. Examine the event log to see what the resource issue was and take appropriate action.


There are two methods to adjust or modify how the Enterprise Vault Admin Service monitors disk space:

1. The Startup Parameters of the Enterprise Vault Admin Service can be modified to specify which local disks to monitor and which to exclude.

2.  The NoMonitor registry key which can be set up to disable/enable monitoring of memory and all local disk space resources. This option is not flexible as it only allows the complete enabling or disabling of the monitoring process; it does not allow specific drives to continue being monitored. This method should only be used as a last resort as monitoring memory and disk drive space is extremely important.
