Problem

After install / upgrade or adding license keys to the Backup Exec 2010 Installation, the Backup Exec Server service hangs in a starting state

 

Error Message

Windows could not start the Server service
Error 1053. The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion

 

Solution

  1. Stop all of the Backup Exec processes. To stop the Backup Exec Server processes:
    • Open the Windows Task Manager on the Backup Exec server - Go to Processes tab - and stop any "BESERVER.EXE" and "MSIEXEC.EXE" processes from the list.
  2. Apply Hotfix 348284 (See Related Documents for the link to download the Hotfix).
  3. Reboot the media server.
