V-79-10000-11217 - VSS Snapshot error. The Microsoft VSS snapshot failed. Make sure that all provider services and tasks are running. Check the Windows Event Viewer for details.
SGMon debug error shows
BENGINE: [02/22/10 22:32:34]  ndmpcSnapshotPrepare2: Snap shot error. ErrorCode: 0x80042306 ErrorLevel: 2 Provider: 2
This warning is given typically when the Volume Shadow Copy Service (VSS) is unable to run due to another instance of VSS already running.
- More than one backup program installed
If there are more than one backup program installed on the machine, disable all of the programs except for one and try run the backup job again.
- Scheduling Conflict
Having two backup jobs running at the same time within BackupExec both trying to run VSS can cause this error to occur. Please change the time one of the backup jobs is scheduled to start so that a conflict isn't likely to occur.
- Previous VSS snapshot has not completed properly and is still running
Stop and Re-start the Volume Shadow Copy service
Reboot the server.
- Re-register .dll files associated with VSS service.
Open command prompt and change directory to windows/system32 and type in the following commands
regsvr32.exe /i eventcls.dll
regsvr32.exe /i swprv.dll
- Apply the following hotfix if the Virtual machine is Windows Server 2003.
