Problem

After upgrade to NetBackup 7.X backups are failing with status 90.

Error Message

Media manager received no data for backup image(90)

Solution

Issue:
Backups for policies configured as below are failing with status 90 after upgrading the Master server to NetBackup 7.0:

  • Backup Selection is set to ALL_LOCAL_DRIVES
  • One or more drives are excluded
  • One or more directives are excluded
  • Allow multiple data streams is selected

Child jobs kicked off for excluded drives are failing with a status 90, causing the parent process to also fail with a status 90.

Workaround:
Modify the excluded drive as follows:
Add an asterisk (*) to the excluded drive or directive entry

Example:

If drive X is to be excluded and is listed in the exclude list as "X:\"

Change the exclude list by adding an asterisk so that the excluded drive is listed as  "X:\*"

Subsequent backup job streams for drive X should now exit with a status 0.

Also adding an asterisk to Shadow Copy Components and or System State exclude will exit with a status 0.
Example:

Shadow Copy Components:\*
System State:\*
