ProblemA 0X7B stop error is generated when attempting a reboot from a RAID-1 disk which contains the original system / boot volume.
Under specific circumstances, this error will occur on a system that has the boot volume mirrored and has more than two disks included in the disk group. The steps to reproduce this error are:
1. Add a mirror to the system / boot volume
2. Shut down the server
3. Remove the disk containing the original system / boot volume (primary disk)
4. Boot off of the shadow disk (secondary disk)
5. Shut down the server
6. Reinsert the primary disk
7. Reboot the server
8. Bug check 0X7B will occur
It is important to note that this is done by design. The primary disk is marked as "stale" when the system is booted off the secondary drive. The primary disk cannot be used to boot from if there is any other disk in the system that "remembers" the fact that the original boot volume is not trusted. Note that even though it bug checked when trying to boot back from the primary disk, it will successfully boot off of the shadow disk.
VERITAS suggests that there should be only two disks in the disk group if the system / boot volume is to be mirrored. If there are more than two disks in the disk group, the following steps must be taken to get the original disk to work:
1. Reattach both disks to the system
2. Boot off of the shadow disk
3. Launch VERITAS Volume Manager (tm) for Windows 2000 or VERITAS Storage Foundation (tm) for Windows
4. Reactivate disk 0 (the original system / boot volume). The volume will resynchronize.
5. After resynchronization is complete, the system may be booted from either disk.
