Installing the Symantec VSS Provider

The Symantec VSS Provider lets you fully protect VSS-aware applications. You install it from the Backup Exec installation media.

Step

Step 1

Browse the Backup Exec installation media to the BE VSS Provider directory.

Step 2

Copy the .iso image to the ESX server.

Step 3

Mount this .iso image to each virtual machine to which you want to install the VSS Provider.

Step 4

From the virtual machine, open the CD-ROM, and then run BEVSSProvider.msi.

Step 5

Do one of the following:

  • If you do not have Pre-freeze-script.bat or Post-thaw-script.bat files in your system root directory, copy these files from C:\Program Files\Symantec\Backup Exec\BE VSS Provider to the system root directory.

  • If you have Pre-freeze-script.bat or Post-thaw-script.bat files files in your system root directory, merge the contents of the scripts from the C:\Program Files\Symantec\Backup Exec\BE VSS Provider directory to your existing scripts.
