Backup - Source_Server_Name - Snapshot Technology: Initialization failure on: "Source_Resource_Name". Snapshot technology used: Microsoft Volume Shadow Copy Service (VSS).

Snapshot technology error (0x80010108): The object invoked has disconnected from its clients.

 

Cause

During snapshot operation, Microsoft Volume Shadow Copy Service (VSS) returns an error 0x80010108 - The object invoked has disconnected from its clients.

 

Solution

1. Open a command prompt (START | RUN | CMD | OK)

2. Type (without quotes) "vssadmin list writers" and press enter.

3. Verify all writers are listed as "Stable" with "No Errors".

 

If errors are listed or the writers are not stable:

4. Reboot the server.

5. Reperform the vssadmin list writers command.

 

If no errors are listed and the writers are stable:

6. Reattempt the backup.
