Problem

NetBackup for Microsoft SQL Server backup fails with the following error message:

Error Message

ERR - The license for the requested feature is not available.

Cause

This problem can occur if the SQL client and the master server have lost communication for several days (typically 7 or more as 7 days is the default expiration of the Certificate Revocation List.)

What happens is that the client is not able to get an updated Certificate Revocation List (CRL) from the master and, therefore, cannot communicate to the master to check for the SQL license.  Examine the dbclient log for the following progression of messages:

08:21:45.980 [5708.1320] <16> dump_proxy_info: statusmsg: The revocation status of the peer host certificate cannot be verified using the Certificate Revocation List (CRL), because the CRL is not up-to-date. It is older than seven days., nbu status = 7656, severity = 2

08:21:45.980 [5708.1320] <16> bsa_checkFeatureId: unable to check if feature <33> is licensed
08:21:45.980 [5708.1320] <16> bsa_checkFeatureId: Server exit status = 25: cannot connect on socket
08:21:45.980 [5708.1320] <16> VxBSAInit: ERR - The license for the requested feature is not available.

Solution

Refresh the CRL on the client via the following command:

\Veritas\NetBackup\bin\nbcertcmd -getCRL
